Mercyhurst Downs UConn

Mercyhurst defeated Connecticut, 6-3, in MAAC play on Friday evening. With the loss, UConn fall to 9-13-3 overall, 9-6-2 in conference play, while Mercyhurst improves to 14-7-2 overall, 14-2-1 in the MAAC.

Mercyhurst’s Peter Rynshoveen opened the scoring at the 7:28 mark of the first period, followed by a Mike Muldoon tally giving the Laker’s the 2-0 advantage.

Kurt Kamienski brought UConn within one with just over three minutes remaining in the stanza.

UConn’s Michael Goldkind evened the score on a power play goal midway through the second
period.

The Lakers took the 4-2 lead on two power play tallies in a one-minute time span. Louis Goulet scored at the 17:01 mark with Tom McMonagle’s tally came 58 seconds later.

Mike Boylan kept the Huskies alive on a blast at 4:04 of the third period on assists from Goclowski and Kamienski.

McMonagle scored his second goal of the night at the 14:52 mark. Jeff Gould then secured the Laker victory on an empty net goal with 21 seconds left in regulation.

Jason Carey suffered the loss in net recording 18 saves, while Mercyhurst’s Peter Aubry stopped 21 UConn shots. The Huskies and the Lakers both recorded 24 shots on goal.
