Forwards Joe Goodenow and Sean Patchell each scored a goal and had two assists Friday night as Michigan State blanked Western Ontario 7-0 in an exhibition game at Munn Ice Arena.
“We had a better effort overall,” said coach Ron Mason. “We had more attention to detail and our guys had some emotion going into the game. This was a good test for us strength-wise. They knocked us around a little bit. I think that was good for us — it makes us make faster decisions.”
Michigan State lost to the U.S. Under-18 team 6-4 on Tuesday.
Seven different MSU skaters scored goals. The Spartans broke the game open with four second-period goals.
Michigan State goaltender Ryan Miller earned the shutout by turning aside 11 shots. Western Ontario goaltenders Denver England and Jarrett Rose combined to make 40 stops.
