Freshman forward Greg Kealey scored a power play goal at the 15:26 mark of the second period to give the Holy Cross Crusaders a 3-2 victory over the Army Black Knights on saturday evening.
The win marked the first time since 1995 that the Crusaders have defeated the Black Knights. The win improves Holy Cross’ record to 2-4-1 (2-3-1 MAAC) while Army falls to 1-5-0 (1-3-0 MAAC).
Holy Cross took the lead 6:44 into the game when Jeff Dams skated the puck across the crease and beat Army goaltender Scott Hamilton over his right shoulder.
The Black Knights scored two goals on their first four shots of the second period to take a 2-1 lead. Alex Rogosheske scored 40 seconds into the period putting a slapshot over Crusader goaltender Derek Cuhna.
Just 49 seconds later Nic Serre kept the puck on a two-on-one rush and put a wrist shot over Cuhna’s left shoulder.
The Crusaders tied the game at 9:58 of the second period when Dams scored on the power play.
Cuhna made 22 saves for his first victory as a Crusader and Hamilton made 24 saves.
Holy Cross will travel to Iona next Friday and Army will host Bentley on Friday.
