Boston University sophomore goaltender Max Prawdzik will take the second semester of the 2016-17 season off to play junior hockey and freshman Nico Lynch will take his spot on the roster, the school announced Friday.

Prawdzik, who will join the NAHL’s Lone Star Brahmas, has not appeared in a regular-season game during his time with the Terriers. He was in goal for the third period of a 10-2 exhibition win over Prince Edward Island on Oct. 1 of this season and stopped all 10 shots he faced.

“In an effort to play some games, Max has decided to explore options at the junior level for the upcoming semester,” said BU coach David Quinn in a statement. “He is planning to rejoin our team next fall with sophomore eligibility.”

Lynch spent three seasons with Boston Advantage of the Tier 1 Elite Hockey League before finishing out his senior year playing at Barnstable High School. He posted a 1.80 GAA for Barnstable in 2015-16 en route to team MVP honors and a spot on the Boston Globe All-Scholastics Old Colony All-Star Team.

“Fortunately for us, there was a quality goaltender already planning on enrolling at BU for the second semester,” added Quinn. “We’ve welcomed Nico to our team and he has looked sharp and capable in practice thus far.”
