D.J. Fimiani has been named the first head coach in the history of Daniel Webster women’s hockey.<\/p>\n
Fimiani spent the last three seasons as an assistant coach for the men’s team at Salve Regina. <\/p>\n
Daniel Webster will launch for the 2014-15 season and build as an independent in the short term while preparing to seek ECAC conference affiliation in the near future.<\/p>\n
“I’m proud to welcome DJ to Daniel Webster College as he begins the process of building our wome’s program from scratch,” said Daniel Webster director of athletics Chris Gilmore in a news release. “His commitment, knowledge, passion and excitement made a terrific impression and we look forward to his guidance of the program over the coming seasons into one that is competitive and reflects well upon the college.”<\/p>\n
“I am excited about the opportunity of starting the new women’s program here at DWC and look forward to building the program from the bottom up,” added Fimiani. “I think we have a great competitive advantage in recruiting and in the next few years, we will be building towards a competitive level while promoting the academics and hockey brand name here at Daniel Webster College.<\/p>\n
“In the short term, I hope to establish a ground floor by introducing young women to the college hockey world and prepare them for the level of competition at which they will be playing. By recruiting locally, nationally and even internationally, I expect that over time that we will be able to compete at a conference and ultimately at a national level.”<\/p>\n
The 26-year-old Fimiani is a 2010 Norwich graduate and earned his degree in Business Management and Marketing, later adding a Master of Business Administration in Project Management from Norwich in 2014. <\/p>\n
A four-year letterwinner, Fimiani was part of a Cadets program that posted a combined four-year record of 81-24-8 and served as assistant captain with the 2010 NCAA champion squad that went 26-1-4. <\/p>\n
After his Norwich career, Fimiani played one season in the Southern Professional Hockey League with the Louisiana IceGators and Fayetteville FireAntz in 2010-11.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
