Rensselaer forward Brock Higgs has been named the 2013-14 Senior CLASS Award winner.

The award recognizes the most outstanding senior player in Division I men’s hockey. It’s selected by coaches, media and fans.

Higgs is scheduled to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in business and management and a master’s degree in management.

He has been on the Dean’s List each semester at Rensselaer.

As a freshman, Higgs was involved in a gruesome incident in which a teammate’s skate sliced his neck, narrowly missing his jugular vein.

He missed three weeks but returned to finish the season.

In 37 games as a senior, he set career highs with 14 goals and 30 points.

Higgs was joined on the award’s first team by Denver goaltender Sam Brittain, St. Lawrence forward Greg Carey, Canisius forward Kyle Gibbons and Cornell goaltender Andy Iles.

The second team included Ferris State defenseman Scott Czarnowczan, Union forward Cole Ikkala, Brown defenseman Dennis Robertson, Nebraska-Omaha forward Ryan Walters and Clarkson forward Matt Zarbo.
