OMAHA, Neb.<\/b> — The eight freshmen on Nebraska-Omaha’s hockey team were placed in alternate housing Wednesday after a two-alarm fire severely damaged a unit in the school’s Scott Village dormitory complex.<\/p>\n
Forty-eight students were displaced by the fire, but all students have been accounted for and none have reported injuries, according to the Omaha World Herald<\/i><\/a>. One firefighter, however, was hospitalized in severe condition.<\/p>\n The incident was reported around 3:15 p.m. at 1512 S. 63rd Court, Building G. The roof of the building collapsed, and the structure sustained heavy smoke and water damage. The third floor of the building was completely destroyed.<\/p>\n An estimated 50 Omaha firefighters were sent to the scene, and five fire trucks and two aerial units were deployed.<\/p>\n The fire was contained to just one of the Scott Village dormitories, although officials were concerned enough that high winds in Omaha on Wednesday could have spread the fire to other buildings, thus necessitating evacuations of the adjacent buildings.<\/p>\n The cause of the fire at Scott Village, which opened in 2003, has not been determined.<\/p>\n The eight Mavericks freshmen are goaltenders Reed Peters and Kirk Thompson; defensemen Ian Brady and Matt Youso; and forwards Jono Davis, Jake Guentzel, Austin Ortega and Justin Parizek.<\/p>\n Some took to Twitter with thoughts:<\/p>\n #Merica<\/a> #buildingG<\/a> pic.twitter.com\/cFJXiVD0R1<\/a><\/p>\n — Ian Brady (@IanBrady1) February 26, 2014<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n <\/p>\n I guess it’s true you don’t realize what you have until it’s gone #sucks<\/a><\/p>\n
