A three-point weekend against Wisconsin was enough to move defending NCAA champion Denver into the top spot in this week’s USCHO.com/CSTV Division I men’s poll Monday.

The Pioneers took over No. 1 for the first time this season in the wake of a win and a tie against the Badgers, leapfrogging new No. 2 Boston College and now third-ranked Colorado College to take over the summit position.

Since last week’s poll, the Eagles lost to Boston University in last Monday’s Beanpot semifinal, then beat Merrimack Friday. The Tigers split with WCHA opponent St. Cloud State.

Fourth place belonged to Cornell, which beat Yale and Princeton and continued to rise in the rankings amidst a 10-game unbeaten streak — one better than the Pioneers’ run of nine without a loss. No. 5 was Michigan, which swept Nebraska-Omaha over the weekend.

Wisconsin fell to sixth after its weekend at Denver, and Ohio State stayed No. 7 after sweeping Bowling Green. New Hampshire was eighth in the wake of a home-and-home sweep of Massachusetts.

Harvard moved up to No. 9 after losing to Northeastern in the Beanpot, then beating Rensselaer. No. 10 was Minnesota, which managed only a loss and a tie hosting Alaska-Anchorage.

BU stood at No. 11, up two spots, after beating BC and Providence, while Colgate tied Yale and beat Princeton to stay at No. 12.

Massachusetts-Lowell, which lost to Northeastern and beat Providence, was No. 13, and Maine and North Dakota, both idle last week, rounded out the poll.
