Two wins over its archrival propelled Michigan to the top of Monday’s USCHO.com\/CSTV Division I men’s poll<\/a>. The Wolverines swept Michigan State in a home-and-home series, then swept into the No. 1 spot in the nation with 35 of 40 first-place votes.<\/p>\n

Last week’s top team, Boston College, left the door open for the Wolverines with a tie and a loss, falling to No. 4 but still getting three first-place votes. The Eagles were also passed by Wisconsin, which rose to No. 2 after two wins at Alaska-Anchorage, and Minnesota, which split with Denver to remain third.<\/p>\n

Colorado College earned the remaining first-place vote, and stayed in fifth after sweeping Michigan Tech. The Tigers were tailed by New Hampshire, in the wake of its pair of wins over Northeastern.<\/p>\n

North Dakota climbed back to No. 7 after topping St. Cloud State twice, and Maine rose four spots to eighth by beating Massachusetts and Providence.<\/p>\n

Ohio State took only one of four points from Nebraska-Omaha to drop to ninth, followed by No. 10 Denver and then 11th-ranked Boston University, which continued its early-season climb with two wins over Massachusetts-Lowell.<\/p>\n

Minnesota-Duluth, a former No. 1 team, fell to No. 12 in the wake of a stunning last-second loss to Brown. Idle Northern Michigan held at No. 13, and Cornell tied Vermont before losing to Dartmouth and dropped to No. 14.<\/p>\n

Vermont, meanwhile, debuted in Monday’s poll at No. 15 after the Cornell tie and a win over Colgate. The Catamounts are riding the nation’s longest unbeaten streak, at eight games.<\/p>\n
