In a non-conference battle, St. Cloud State University charted a 4-1 win over Brown University (2-5-0, 2-4-0 ECAC) at the National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn. The victory improved SCSU’s record to 5-7-1, 3-6-1 WCHA.<\/p>\n
In the game, SCSU dominated play in the first period as it outshot Brown 16-3. The scoreboard said otherwise as the two teams were tied 1-1 at the end of the first period. SCSU sophomore forward Marty Mjelleli scored his first career goal at St. Cloud with a tally at 2:52 of the first. Assists on the play were credited to Billy Hengen and Justin Fletcher. <\/p>\n
Brown roared back with a power-play goal at 8:15 of the first period by Matt Vokes. He was assisted on the play by Antonin Roux and Brian Ihnacak. <\/p>\n
In the second period, SCSU iced the game with a pair of goals to make it 3-1. SCSU senior Joe Jensen scored his eighth goal of the season at 12:06 with assists from Brock Hooton and Hengen. SCSU senior defender T.J. McElroy notched his second goal of the season at 14:58 of the second with assists from Jensen and Andrew Gordon. To complete the scoring, Gordon posted his 15th point of the season with a goal at 17:13 of the third on the power play. Hengen, who had three assists in the game, added an assist along with Jensen, who ended the game with one goal and two assists. <\/p>\n
In the nets, Bobby Goepfert gained the victory and improved his season total to 5-5-1. He made 20 saves in the contest and allowed only one goal on the power play. Adam D’Alba had 28 saves for the Bears. On the power play, SCSU was 1 of 5 and Brown was 1 of 6. SCSU outshot the Bears 32-21 in the contest.<\/p>\n
