Justin Micek scored shorthanded in the third period, providing a two-goal lead and what would be the game-winning goal in Wisconsin-Stevens Point’s 5-2 victory over No. 3 Wisconsin-River Falls on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Stevens Point took third place in the NCHA Peters Cup Championship at the Cornerstone Community Ice Center, crippling River Falls’ hopes of an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament.<\/p>\n

Micek’s goal put the Pointers (15-12-2) ahead 3-1 with 16:10 left in the third period. UWSP defenseman Jordan Blair added a power-play goal after River Falls (22-6-1) cut the lead to 3-2 on a Nate Kotewa goal.<\/p>\n

Zenon Kochan, David Scott and Derrick Johnson (empty net) also scored for the Pointers. Jim Murphy scored the Falcons’ first goal.<\/p>\n
