Freshman wing John Zeiler scored two goals and assisted on a third as St. Lawrence came from behind with six unanswered goals to take a 7-3 victory from Dartmouth Saturday night.

The Saints improved to 5-13-3 overall and 2-6-1 in the ECAC with their most productive night of the season. Dartmouth, 8-0-0 at home, dropped to 1-6-0 on the road and is 9-6-0 overall and 5-4-0 in the ECAC.

The Big Green opened the scoring when sophomore defenseman John Ostapyk scored his first goal of the season on a screened shot from the point at 7:53, but the Saints came back to tie it up on Jack O’Brien’s second of the season at 12:40.

Dartmouth retook the lead 55 seconds later when freshman Mike Ouellette scored his seventh of the year on a rising shot just under the crossbar and it went to 3-1 at 15:32 when freshman Hugh Jessiman scored his ninth on a power play tip-in.

The Saints came roaring back in the second period and scored three goals in a span of 5:14 to take a 4-3 lead. Freshman John Zeiler started the scoring flurry with his third of the year at 5:51 and sophomore Stace Page tied it with his third of the season at 7:10. Sophomore defenseman Matt Macdonald then put the Saints in front with his first career goal at 11:05.

“We haven’t had that many three-goal games this season so a three-goal period was a real plus for us,” said Saint coach Joe Marsh. “We didn’t play that badly in the first period, but Dartmouth scored on a couple of rockets. I think Jack O’Brien’s goal was a huge one in that it kept us in it mentally.”

The Saints, now 8-1-1 in their last 10 meetings with Dartmouth, put the game away with another three-goal flurry in the third period. Freshman T.J. Trevleyan started a flurry of three Saint goals in a span of 3:01 of the third when he scored his fifth of the year at 9:17. Senior Jim Lorentz scored his sixth of the year exactly a minute later and Zeiler scored his second of the night on a power play at 12:18 to conclude the scoring.

Saint goalie Kevin Ackley finished with 35 saves while Nick Boucher had 27 and Dan Yacey added four for the Big Green.

“From a confidence standpoint this was a big one for us,” said Marsh. “The guys worked hard and showed a lot of resiliency?and we got goals from both the veterans and the kids.”
