Sophomore goaltender Matt Violin made 50 saves, 20 of them in the third period, and freshman forward Nathan Ward scored the tying goal with 2:56 to go in regulation time as Lake Superior State salvaged a 2-2 tie with St. Lawrence Saturday night. <\/p>\n
The Lakers, now 3-14-1 snapped a 13-game losing streak with the tie while the Saints are now 4-11-2 overall and 2-0-1 in their last three. <\/p>\n
Sophomore Simon Watson opened the scoring for the Saints as he pinched in from his spot on defense and backhanded a rebound of a shot by freshman T.J. Trevelyan past Laker goalie Matt Violin at 14:59 of the first period, but the Lakers tied it up on a power play exactly four minutes later. Junior center Chris Peterson scored the goal, his third of the year as he banked a shot off the shoulder of Saint goalie Mike McKenna at 18:59. <\/p>\n
Neither team scored in an even second period and the Saints took a 2-1 lead at 4:18 of the third when senior Blair Clarance scored on a rebound put-back just two seconds after a Saint power play had expired. <\/p>\n
The Lakers then tied it when Ward broke into the Saint zone and fired a rising shot which McKenna got a glove on, but saw it bounce out of the glove and flip into the net. <\/p>\n
