St. Cloud Statejumped out to a 2-0 lead, but gave up two goals in the third period and MSU-Mankato scored on its second shot in overtime to knock off the Huskies, 3-2 at the National Hockey Center.

The loss drops the Huskies to 5-20-1 overall (4-11-1 WCHA), and puts a serious dent in the Huskies’ hopes for a WCHA Final Five Tournament berth. Meanwhile, MSU-Mankato improves to 4-19-1 overall and 1-15-0 in the WCHA. The Mavericks’ win ended a 48-game WCHA winless streak.

The Huskies jumped ahead early, scoring two goals in the first period. Jennifer Swanson got SCSU on the board at the 10:45 mark with an assist from Gabrielle Adams. The Huskies then went up 2-0 on Andrea Keller’s ninth goal of the year at the 17:24 mark with assists from Roxanne Stang and Abby Cooper.

But the Mavericks clawed back in the final 20 minutes. Amy Egli scored at the 3:53 mark to narrow the gap to 2-1, and the Mavericks then tied the game at two at the 14:17 mark on a Robyn Shaw goal. The two teams both had scoring opportunities in the final five minutes, but neither team could push across the winning goal.

The Mavericks then won the faceoff in the extra session, and Amy Egli knocked home a rebound for the 3-2 victory.

The Mavericks outshot the Huskies 35-32, and were 2-of-3 on the power play. SCSU was 1-of-3 on the power play. Ellen Brinkman stopped 32 shots in the loss.
