For the second consecutive night, Yale overcame an early deficit, went ahead and then saw the tying and game-winning goals scored late in a one-goal loss. The victor Saturday was Miami, 4-3, in the consolation game of the 2001 Silverado Tournament.

After a pair of first-period Evan Cheverie one-timers gave the RedHawks a 2-0 lead midway through, the Elis got consecutive goals from Denis Nam, Jason Noe and Ryan Steeves.

Nam’s slapshot from the right circle at 19:41 of the first stanza cut the lead in half, and nine minutes later Noe wristed one from between the circles to even the score.

Steeves gave the Bulldogs their only lead at 14:05 of the second by picking up his own rebound and firing a shot past David Burleigh with the man advantage.

Freshman Peter Cohen (12 saves) made his first start in goal and allowed the first two Miami scores. Sophomore Peter Dobrowolski came on midway through the second in his first action of the year. He would get a rude greeting from the Red Hawks in the third period.

A Mike Glumac goal at 8:21 of the third knotted the score at 3-3. A minute later, Bryan Freeman was called for tripping and Miami cashed in with the game winner. Mike Kompon’s blast from the right circle beat Dobrowolski at 11:58.

Nick Petraglia (10 saves), who replaced Burleigh in the second period, held off the Bulldogs for the win.

Joe Callahan had Yale’s best opportunity to tie it up, with Dobrowolski pulled for the final 2:17. The Elis could not come up with enough offense, however, after getting outshot 10-3 in the final 20 minutes.
