Seventh-ranked Brown defeated Providence, 4-0, in the seventh annual Mayor’s Cup on Sunday at PC’s Schneider Arena.<\/p>\n
The Bears scored the only goal they would need at the 3:36 mark of the first period as senior Kristy Zamora scored the first of her three goals to put Brown ahead, 1-0, after one period. The Friars had a chance to open the scoring but Brown goaltender Pam Dreyer made a big save on senior Angela Hill’s breakaway attempt two minutes into the game.<\/p>\n
In the second period neither team could score. PC outshot Brown, 10-9, in the period and went 0-2 on the power play. For the game, the Friars outshot Brown, 31-22, but could not convert on the power play (0-5).<\/p>\n
The Bears erupted for three third-period goals in a span of 1:21 to put the game out of reach. Junior Kim Insalaco made the score 2-0 at the 5:03 mark, while Zamora tallied two more goals just 23 seconds apart.<\/p>\n
Dreyer stopped all 31 Providence shots in the win, while Amy Quinlan made 18 saves in the loss.<\/p>\n
