Host Providence held of a feisty Maine team, 3-2, on Saturday to sweep their quarterfinal series and advance to the semifinals where they will face Northeastern on Friday in the second semifinal game at the TD Garden.<\/p>\n
Providence jumped out to a 3-0 first-period lead on Scott Conway’s second goal of the series combined with power-play tallies by Brandon Duhaime and Josh Wilkins.<\/p>\n
Maine, though, climbed back quickly, striking twice in 45 seconds early in the second. Eduards Trailmaks buried a power-play goal at 1:08, while Nolan Vesey pulled the Black Bears within a goal at 1:53.<\/p>\n
From that point, neither team could muster another goal.<\/p>\n
