Darlene Stephenson’s two goals and two assists helped Providence rout Vermont in a non-conference game on Saturday at Schneider Arena.<\/p>\n
The Friars got on the scoreboard first at 2:36 of the first period and did not look back. Sophomore forward Jenn Butsch notched what proved to be the game-winning goal on passes from junior defenseman Christa Talbot and senior forward Erin Cannon. PC added a goal from Stephenson to take a 2-0 lead into the first intermission. <\/p>\n
Providence exploded for five goals in the second period, three of which came in the sixth minute. Junior forward Kim Mathias sparked PC’s first line as she scored at 5:05 and 5:19 of the period. Junior forward Jackie Tamsin added PC’s fifth goal of the game at 5:59 with assists going to senior defenseman Val Bono and sophomore forward Danielle Culgin.<\/p>\n
Providence took the 9-0 decision as the Friars added two-third period goals. Providence outshot the Catamounts, 51-5.<\/p>\n
