UMass-Lowell scored four times in the first 8:07 of the second period to snap a scoreless tie and propel the River Hawks to a 7-0 victory in a nonleague game at Tate Rink on Sunday afternoon.

The bigger River Hawks (4-6) were able to keep the puck in the Army zone for much of the contest, limiting the Black Knights (3-6) to just nine shots on goal while peppering Scott Hamilton for 37 shots. Hamilton made 14 saves in the opening period to keep the game scoreless, but Laurent Meunier scored just 11 seconds into the second stanza, opening up the floodgates.

At the 2:51 mark Hamilton made a terrific skate save from point-blank range on Kevin Kotyluk, but Ed McGrane jumped on the rebound and made it 2-0. Tom Rouleau scored a power-play goal at 4:02 and McGrane added his second goal with a hard wrist shot from the right faceoff circle at 8:07.

Brad Rooney, Nick Carso and Kotyluk all scored in the third period for the River Hawks. Kyle Kidney and Yorick Treille each had two assists.

Chris Davidson, making his first collegiate start in goal for UMass-Lowell, was credited with the shutout. Hamilton finished with 30 saves for the Black Knights, who were dealt their most lopsided loss since an 8-0 defeat at UMass-Amherst in 1996-97.
