Concordia exploded for four goals in the second period, including two shorthanders, and went on to beat St. Olaf 8-0 Friday. <\/p>\n
Eight different players scored and goaltender Bryan Howard stopped all 26 shots he faced to record his first shutout on the season. <\/p>\n
The teams combined for 54 minutes of penalties despite a relatively clean, outbreak-free game. <\/p>\n
Early in the game seemed, St.Olaf goalie Jake Bullard made several key saves as Concordia failed to produce on two power-play opportunities. But on the third power play, Brian Nelson jammed home a rebound at 10:16 to put Concordia up. <\/p>\n
In the second period, Concordia was penalized four times and converted shorthanded goals on two penalty kills. At 12:23, Mark Schiller finished off a rush from the Cobbers’ blue line as he swatted his own rebound out of midair after taking a pass from Jon Tranby. Three minutes later Tranby once again gained possesion on a penalty kill at his own blue line. This time he fed captain Mike Gast, who raced past the Ole defense and beat Bullard on the backhand. <\/p>\n
Concordia added four more goals and Howard thwarted several St. Olaf power-play chances in the third period to post his ninth career shutout. The Cobbers successfuly killed all six power-play opportunities for St. Olaf. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
