Junior David Deeves scored with under six minutes to play in the third period as Canisius rallied from a two-goal deficit to tie Bentley 2-2 in MAAC action Friday at the Amherst Pepsi Center.

Junior defenseman Steve Tobio had two assists and senior Ray DeVincent came up big again with 52 saves as Bentley — opening its MAAC season — snapped its seven-game losing streak, including two last weekend in the season-opening Quinnipiac Cup. Canisius, which was also opening its MAAC schedule, evened its overall record at 1-1-1.

DeVincent, who has made an incredible 136 saves in three games, blanked the Ice Griffs over the first two periods before yielding a pair of goals in the final stanza.

Bentley scored both its goals in the middle period, sophomore Andy Peters lighting the lamp at 8:11 and freshman Mike Mulligan following just 64 seconds later, with Tobio involved in both scores.

Canisius got on the scoreboard at 4:21 of the third when junior Steve Birch scored his first of the season on a power play. Exactly ten minutes later junior David Deeves tallied the equalizer, also his first of the year.

Canisius goalie Sean Weaver, the 1999-2000 MAAC Goalie of the Year, made only 17 saves while watching his teammates outshoot Bentley by a margin of 54-19.
