Yanick Evola scored a hat trick and added an assist as the X-men of St. Francis Xavier in Nova Scotia defeated the University of Vermont, 5-0, Friday in an exhibition college hockey game at
\nUVM’s Gutterson Fieldhouse.<\/p>\n
St. Francis Xavier, one of the top collegiate teams in Canada, scored first when Evola scored a power-play goal on a tip-in from former Princeton defenseman Dominique Auger and Carl Beaudoin with 40 seconds left in the first period.<\/p>\n
The X-men made it 2-0 on a short-handed tally by Steve Nimigon at 4:40 of the second period, with Auger and Beaudoin assisting. The winners then added goals from Evola and Guy Loranger to close out the second period with a 4-0 lead.<\/p>\n
St. Francis Xavier made it 5-0 early in the third when Evola scored his third of the game on the power play.<\/p>\n
Vermont’s Shawn Conschafter made 14 saves for the Catamounts, while David Haun stopped 20 for the X-men.<\/p>\n
St. Francis Xavier will travel to play Dartmouth on Saturday evening while Vermont will host Queen’s next weekend.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
