Wisconsin earned its first win over a ranked opponent Friday with a 4-2 victory over No. 3 Minnesota-Duluth at the Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center.

Michelle Sikich scored the game-winner and added an assist, and Badgers goaltender Jackie MacMillan made 47 saves.

“We didn’t quit tonight,” MacMillan said. “We wanted this win so bad. We now know what we are capable of — nothing less than what we did tonight, and that’s got to be our expectation now. To beat a team of this caliber is only going to make our expectations higher.”

Meghan Hunter and Sis Paulsen staked Wisconsin to a 2-0 lead in the first period.

Jessi Flink narrowed the lead to one for Duluth, but Sikich scored to once again give the Badgers a two-goal lead, at 3-1.

Duluth’s Maria Rooth scored to halve the advantage, but Wisconsin’s Steph Millar gave the Badgers their third power-play goal of the game for a 4-2 lead.

UMD goaltender Tuula Puputti made 21 saves in the loss.
