KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Trailing 2-1 entering the third period, No. 3 St. Cloud State rallied with three goals, two from Mikey Eyssimont, to earn an important 4-2 road win over No. 15 Western Michigan. First, at 5:43 Jack Poehling skated down the left side and got off a shot from a harmless-looking position that beat Austin Cain short side. Cain seemed to misplay the puck. Eyssimont then gave the Huskies the lead at 11:19 with a power-play strike, ripping a shot top shelf from the right faceoff circle. Eyssimont added an empty-netter at 18:39 to seal the win.
Eaton Brodzinski put the Huskies on the board first at 4:16 of the second with a power-play goal when he picked up a rebound of Jimmy Schuldt’s blast from the right point and lifted it into the open net. However, Western answered with two goals to take the 2-1 lead entering the third.
First, Josh Passolt tied it with a short-handed goal at 6:32. Defenseman Milka Ilvonen was trying to get to the bench when one of his teammates tried a pass from the left side of the neutral zone that hit Ilvonen’s skate and sent Passolt racing in on a two-on-one on Ilvonen with Cam Lee. Lee carried it up the left side and passed through the slot to Passolt, who made a nice fake shot and then dragged the puck forward and lifted it in.
Dawson DiPietro gave the Broncos the lead at 9:35 on a play he set up with a relentless forecheck that forced a turnover at the right side boards. Austin Rueschhoff carried the puck toward the right corner at the goal line, then backhanded a pass to DiPietro racing into the right faceoff circle, and DiPietro ripped a snap shot top shelf.
