Joe Motzko scored two goals and netminder Jake Moreland recorded his first career shutout as St. Cloud State gained a 7-0 win over Bemidji State in action at the National Hockey Center.
At 3-0-1, the Huskies are now off to their best-ever start through four games in the Division I history of the program, dating back to 1987-88.
The game winner was posted early in the contest as Chris Purslow scored at 4:21 with an assist from Motzko.
Later in the first, SCSU’s Mark Hartigan and Tyler Arnason added goals to make it 3-0 at the intermission.
Duvie Westcott, Nate DiCasmirro and Motzko posted goals in the second to make it 6-0 St. Cloud, and in the third period, Motzko scored the final goal of the game at 2:20.
Overall, Motzko had two goals and one assist, while Arnason and Westcott had one goal and one assist each. Moreland charted 20 saves as the Huskies outshot the Beavers, 43-20.
