ORONO, Maine — Despite notching two power-play goals and one shorthanded, Maine settled for a 3-3 tie with Alaska-Anchorage at Alfond Arena on Saturday night.

Ben Hutton’s power-play goal put the Black Bears on the board 14:03 in the first as Maine had a 5-on-3 advantage after two Seawolves were sent to the box just 34 seconds apart. Devin Shore fed the puck to Hutton, who delivered a shot through traffic into the back of the net.

Then, 15:07 into the second, UAA’s Dylan Hubbs tallied the equalizer, catching Maine off guard and slipped the puck between goalie Matt Morris’ pads.

Just 1:06 later, Austin Coldwell added another to give the Seawolves a 2-1 lead.

Maine was back on the power play when freshmen Malcolm Hayes found an open slot to even the score 2-2 with 49 seconds left in the 2nd.

Blaine Byron’s shorthanded goal in the third gave Maine a 3-2 advantage as UAA turned the puck over in the neutral zone and Byron faked out goaltender Olivier Mantha.

Still on the power play, UAA’s Scott Allen sent the game into OT when his one-timer beat Morris 1:50 into the third period.

Byron had another chance at Mantha with a penalty shot in overtime after UAA deliberately knocked the goal off its moorings, but he lost control of the puck before getting the shot off.

Maine is now 1-4-1, while Alaska-Anchorage is 3-1-2.
